Evaluation of a Newly Developed Anticorrosive Additive

We recently worked on an interesting project focused on the development and evaluation of a new anticorrosive additive.

The client’s objective was clear:
Compare the performance of their newly developed additive with existing technologies in the market through a structured and reliable testing approach.

Project Approach

We designed a complete testing strategy, including:

Development of coating formulations

  • Preparation of a two-layer coating system:
    • Epoxy-based primer
    • PU-based topcoat

This allowed us to simulate realistic industrial coating conditions.

Two coating systems were developed:

S1 coating systems with standard anticorrosive additives. (standard system)

S2 coatinsg systems with new developed anticorrosive coatings.  (sample system)

Tests Performed

To evaluate performance, we conducted multiple tests aligned with international standards:

  • Humidity Resistance TestISO 6270
  • SO₂ Resistance Test (Kesternich Test)ISO 6988
  • Cyclic Corrosion TestISO 16701
  • Mechanical Tests (Adhesion, Impact, etc.)ISO 2409 / ISO 6272

Results

The results were highly insightful, clearly highlighting performance differences between formulations and providing valuable direction for further optimization.

Final Thought

Such comparative studies are essential for validating new technologies and ensuring they meet real-world performance expectations.
